Day 1
Each game consists of a three minute round, a one minute break, and then another three minute round with the position of the players switched.
Standing
Attribution: This game was originally created by coach Rob Coale: Ecopalooza Video.
Attacking Player:
- Position: Standing behind your partner, with your arms around their torso, your hands not yet connected.
- Objective: Connect your hands around the torso or a leg.
- Constraints: No takedowns.
- Win Condition: Your hands connected around your partners torso or their leg.
Defending Player:
- Position: In front of your partner, they have their arms around your torso. You are covering their knuckles with your hands and holding their hands, to prevent them from connecting their hands.
- Objective: Disconnect, turn to face.
- Constraints: No takedowns.
- Win Condition: Disconnected from your partner and facing them.

Guard
Attribution: This game was originally created by coach Greg Souders at Standard Jiu-Jitsu.
Top Player:
- Position: Standing disconnected from your partner near their feet.
- Objective: Use hands to keep your partner's connections broken and your feet free.
- Constraints: Stay as close to your partner as possible.
- Win Condition: None
Bottom Player:
- Position: Lying on your back with your knees retracted to your chest and elbows in near your knees.
- Objective: Make and maintain connections to the inside of your partner's legs using your hands and feet. Get both feet in between your partners legs as well as both hands on legs. Retain position as long as possible.
- Constraints: No sweeps allowed
- Win Condition: None
This game is continuous.
Top Player:
- Position: On your knees with your partner's bottom leg between yours and your chest pressing against the knee of their top leg. Their hands should be connected to your body in any configuration they want.
- Objective: Remove the knee shield.
- Constraints: You can alleviate pressure to manipulate the frame, but cannot flee the engagement.
- Win Condition: The knee shield is no longer between you and your partner.
Bottom Player:
- Position: On one side with your bottom leg inside your partner's knees, your top knee should be touching their upperbody, and your hands/arms should be touching their body in any configuration you'd like.
- Objective: Keep your top knee between you and your partner. Do not allow them to remove it.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: None
Pinning/Passing
Before playing this game watch this video to get an idea of how to finish a straight ankle lock if you are unsure.
This game should only be played enough rounds for each player to get a feel for finishing the submission and for feeling the submission mechanics being applied.
Attacking Player:
- Position: Seated with your partner in ashi garami with an overhook/wrap on your opponent's captured leg.
- Objective: Slowly apply the finishing mechanics of the straight ankle lock.
- Constraints: Move as slowly as possible while applying pressure to the ankle.
- Win Condition: Your partner taps.
Defending Player:
- Position: Inside your partner's ashi garami with an overhook/wrap on your captured leg.
- Objective: Tap early as your partner slowly applies finishing mechanics for the straight ankle lock.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: None
Reset when attacking player wins.
Attacking Player:
- Position: Seated with your partner in ashi garami with an overhook/wrap on your opponent's captured leg.
- Objective: Maintain control of your opponent's foot and leg.
- Constraints: No finishing, submission attempts, and no exposing the heel. No finishing or submission attempts. If the position feels unsafe at any time completely release the foot and leg.
- Win Condition: None
Defending Player:
- Position: Inside your partner's ashi garami with an overhook/wrap on your captured leg.
- Objective: Keep your heel hidden by pressing it into their ribs and find a way to free the trapped leg.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: Your leg is freed.
Reset if defending player wins.
Attacking Player:
- Position: Seated with your partner in ashi garami with your outside elbow on the ground and their leg between your arm and torso.
- Objective: Gain control of the foot/ankle by securing it in your armpit. Maintain control for as long as possible.
- Constraints: No finishing or submission attempts.
- Win Condition: None
Defending Player:
- Position: Inside your partner's ashi garami with your foot between their elbow and torso.
- Objective: Prevent your foot from being captured in their armpit and free your leg.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: Your leg is freed.
Reset if defending player wins.
6 Minute Round
Live round with a partner. Start standing if you are able to do so safely. Otherwise pick the starting position from one of the previous games and start there. Roll to submission, reset, and continue. Repeat as many times as possible before the round ends.
