Day 2
Each game consists of a three minute round, a one minute break, and then another three minute round with the position of the players switched.
Standing
Attacking Player:
- Position: Standing in front of your partner completely disconnected.
- Objective: Tag one of your partner's knees as many times as possible before the round ends.
- Constraints: No takedowns.
- Win Condition: None
Defending Player:
- Position:Standing in front of your partner completely disconnected.
- Objective: Focus on preventing your partner from touching your knees by using movement to create space and your limbs to impede their movement.
- Constraints: No takedowns.
- Win Condition: None
This game is continuous.
Defensive Player:
- Position: Standing with your partner on one knee in front of you and their hands clasped behind your thighs as pictured below.

- Objective: Get your legs back in front of your partner.
- Constraints: Game begins when your hips touch the mat.
- Win Condition: Destabilize your partner and reverse the position.
Offensive Player:
- Position: Kneeling in front of your partner with your knee between their legs, your hands clasped behind their legs, and your head on the side of their torso opposite your kneeling leg.
- Objective: Work to break your partner's connections to you and get past the line of their hips.
- Constraints: Finish the takedown. Game starts when your partner's hips touch the mat.
- Win Condition: Achieve chest to chest or chest to back contact.
Guard
Attribution: This game was originally created by coach Greg Souders at Standard Jiu-Jitsu.
Top Player:
- Position: Top of your partner who is on their side. You have access to their hips.
- Objective: Flatten your opponent to their back, create chest to chest contact, and establish underhooks
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: Free your trapped leg.
Bottom Player:
- Position: On your side with your partner having access to your hips.
- Objective: Use movement to create space and improve your position.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: Establish the knee shield or inside hook.
Pinning/Passing
Top Player:
- Position: On your back with your partner's arm isolated between your legs with their forearm held to your chest.
- Objective: Maintain control of your partner's arm.
- Constraints: Do not finish the submission.
- Win Condition: None
Bottom Player:
- Position: On your back with one arm isolated between your partner's legs and with your forearm on their chest.
- Objective: Escape by any means.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: Breaking free of your partner's control.
Reset if bottom player wins.

Top Player:
- Position: Sitting up, perpendicular to your partner, one arm deep elbow to elbow hook, and the other arm posting or hooking the leg, with your partner's arm between your legs.
- Objective: Maintain control of your partner's arm, and break their grip, so you can isolate one arm.
- Constraints: Do not finish the submission.
- Win Condition: Break the grip between their hands and keep them separated.
Bottom Player:
- Position: On your back with one arm isolated between your partner's legs but with your other hand reinforcing the isolated arm with any hand to hand grip.
- Objective: Escape by any means and don't allow your arm to get separated.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: Breaking free of your partner's control.
Reset if either player wins.

Top Player:
- Position: Start in the position pictured above.
- Objective: Maintain your structure and hold your partner down as they move underneath you.
- Constraints: Do not separate your partner's hands or finish the submission.

Bottom Player:
- Position: Start in the position pictured above.
- Objective: Resist your partner's attempts to hold you down.
- Win Condition: You free your arm or are able to get your back off of the mat.
Reset if bottom player wins.
Live round with a partner. Start standing if you are able to do so safely. Otherwise pick the starting position from one of the previous games and start there. Roll to submission, reset, and continue. Repeat as many times as possible before the round ends.
