Day 2

Each game consists of a three minute round, a one minute break, and then another three minute round with the position of the players switched.

Standing


Attacking Player:

  • Position: Standing with one arm connected to your partner's torso inside their arm (underhook) with your other arm free.
  • Objective: Maintain your underhook and create hip to hip contact.
  • Constraints: No takedowns. Fight for inside space only.
  • Win Condition: None.

Defending Player:

  • Position: Standing with your partner's arm connected to your torso inside your arm with your same side arm hooked around their arm so that your hand is near their armpit.
  • Objective: Deny your partner access to inside space and hip to hip contact.
  • Constraints: No takedowns. Fight for inside space only.
  • Win Condition: None

Attacking Player:

  • Position: Standing in front of your partner with one arm connected to their torso inside one of their arms (underhook).
  • Objective: Fight for inside space. Get underneath or behind your partner's elbows.
  • Constraints: No takedowns.
  • Win Condition: None

Defending Player:

  • Position:Standing in front of your partner with one arm connected to their torso inside one of their arms (underhook) on the side opposite their underhook.
  • Objective: Fight for inside space. Get underneath or behind your partner's elbows.
  • Constraints: No takedowns.
  • Win Condition: None

Guard


Attribution: This is based on a Youtube Video posted by coach Greg Souders at Standard Jiu-Jitsu.

Attacking Player:

  • Position: Seated with your partner, you control their leg with ashi garami.
  • Objective: Move partners leg across your body, get both of your feet inside of their legs (cross ashi), collect other leg, than switch to ashi garami on other leg and repeat.
  • Constraints: No finishing, submission attempts, and no exposing the heel. No finishing or submission attempts. If the position feels unsafe at any time completely release the foot and leg.
  • Win Condition: Complete all entanglements on both legs in no particular order.

Defending Player:

  • Position: Inside your partner's ashi garami.
  • Objective: Free your legs.
  • Constraints: None
  • Win Condition: Your legs are freed.

Reset if either player wins.

Attacking Player:

  • Position: Seated with your partner in cross ashi (saddle) with an overhook/wrap on your opponent's outside leg.
  • Objective: Maintain control of your opponent's foot. Recapture your opponent's foot if it is freed.
  • Constraints: No finishing, submission attempts, and no exposing the heel.
  • Win Condition: None

Defending Player:

  • Position: Inside your partner's cross ashi (saddle) with your outside leg wrapped in an overhook.
  • Objective: Hide your heels and free the leg that is captured.
  • Constraints: None
  • Win Condition: None

Pinning/Passing


Top Player:

  • Position: Standing while straddling your supine partner with the top of your head touching the mat in their armpit. They should have one arm wrapped around your neck. The position should be uncomfortable, but you should not be getting actively choked.
  • Objective: Focus on freeing your head from the submission using movement and by fighting their hands.
  • Constraints: None
  • Win Condition: Freeing your head.

Bottom Player:

  • Position: Laying on the ground belly up with your partner's feet on either side of your body and with their head on the mat in your armpit. You should have one arm wrapped around their neck.
  • Objective: Maintain control of your opponent without connecting your hands.
  • Constraints: Do not connect your hands or finish the submission.
  • Win Condition: None

Reset if top player wins.


Top Player:

  • Position: Standing while straddling your supine partner with the top of your head touching the mat in their armpit. Their arm should be wrapped around your neck with their hands connected. The position should be uncomfortable, but you should not be getting actively choked.
  • Objective: Focus on freeing your head from the submission using movement and by fighting their hands.
  • Constraints: None
  • Win Condition: Freeing your head and getting your legs back between you and your partner or standing for 3 seconds.

Bottom Player:

  • Position: Laying on the ground belly up with your partner's feet on either side of your body and with their head on the mat in your armpit. Your arm should wrap around their neck and your hands should be connected.
  • Objective: Maintain control of your opponent without actively choking them. When they escape the guillotine finish with any other submission before the scramble ends.
  • Constraints: Do not finish the guillotine.
  • Win Condition: Tapping your partner with any submission except the guillotine that you started with.

Reset if top player wins.

6 Minute Round

Live round with a partner. Start standing if you are able to do so safely. Otherwise pick the starting position from one of the previous games and start there. Roll to submission, reset, and continue. Repeat as many times as possible before the round ends.
