Day 2

Each game consists of a three minute round, a one minute break, and then another three minute round with the position of the players switched.

Standing


Attribution: This game was originally created by coach Pat Campagnola: Ecopalooza Video. Two grapplers standing, top player has one arm of the defending player attached to his chest with both hands. Two grapplers standing, top player has one arm of the defending player attached to his chest with both hands. Top Player:

  • Position: Next to the bottom player, their arm pressed to your chest with two arms. (Russian Tie)
  • Objective: Connect your hands around their leg (single leg), body (body lock) or head and arm (front headlock).
  • Constraints: No takedowns.
  • Win Condition: Hands connected around either leg, body or head and arm.

Bottom Player:

  • Position: Standing to the top player, your arm held by top player.
  • Objective: Free yourself, disengage, turn to face.
  • Constraints: No attacks, purely defensive.
  • Win Condition: Arm freed, facing toward top player.

Top Player:

  • Position: Standing behind your partner, with your arms around their torso, your hands connected in front of them.
  • Objective: Keep connected and make your partner touch the ground with their hips, or take their back.
  • Constraints: Your partner and you have to have at least one foot on the ground at all times (no lifting/jumping).
  • Win Condition: Your partner touches the ground with their butt, or with knees and ellbows and you take their back and establish chest to back connection.

Bottom Player:

  • Position: In front of your partner, they have their arms around your torso, their hands connected in front of you, you have your feet and hands on the ground (Quadpod).
  • Objective: Stand up, disconnect, turn to face.
  • Constraints: No takedowns.
  • Win Condition: Disconnected from your partner and facing them.

Guard


Attribution: This game was originally created by coach Greg Souders at Standard Jiu-Jitsu.

Top Player:

  • Position: Standing disconnected from your partner near their feet.
  • Objective: Use hands to keep your partner's connections broken and your feet free.
  • Constraints: Stay as close to your partner as possible.
  • Win Condition: None

Bottom Player:

  • Position: Lying on your back with your knees retracted to your chest and elbows in near your knees.
  • Objective: Make and maintain connections to the inside of your partner's legs using your hands and feet. Get both feet in between your partners legs as well as both hands on legs. Retain position as long as possible.
  • Constraints: No sweeps allowed
  • Win Condition: None

This game is continuous.

Top Player:

  • Position: Standing disconnected from your partner near their feet.
  • Objective: Clear the line of the feet and advance to the line of the knees either outside or inside your partner's legs. Hold this position for as long as possible.
  • Constraints: Stay as close to your partner as possible.
  • Win Condition: None

Bottom Player:

  • Position: Lying on your back with your knees retracted to your chest and elbows in near your knees.
  • Objective: Make and maintain connections to inside position using your hands and feet and then use those connections to destabilize your partner.
  • Constraints: None
  • Win Condition: Off balance your partner forcing them either onto their hands or their butt. If they land on their butt immediately reset and continue. If they land on their hands hold them in that position for as long as you can.

Reset if bottom player wins.

Pinning/Passing


Attribution: This game is based on an Instagram reel posted by coach Greg Souders at Standard Jiu-Jitsu.

Top Player:

  • Position: Behind your partner with chest to back contact and your hands locked around their waist.
  • Objective: Get your hands connected to the hips and shoulders simultaneously. Maintain chest to back connection and back exposure for as long as possible.
  • Constraints: Do not puncture hooks or submit your opponent.
  • Win Condition: None

Bottom Player:

  • Position: In front of your partner with your hands and knees on the ground, their chest contacting your back, and their hands locked around your waist.
  • Objective: Use movement to create space and improve your position.
  • Constraints: None
  • Win Condition: Turn and face your partner by any means necessary.

Reset if bottom player wins.

  • Position: Behind your partner with chest to back contact, a single leg wrapped around their torso with your foot covering their hip, one arm wrapped over their shoulder, the other arm wrapped under their armpit, and your hands connected.
  • Objective: Maintain chest to back contact while hunting for submissions.
  • Constraints: Do not puncture the second hook. Only close your legs around your partner while attacking an upper body submission.
  • Win Condition: Successfully submitting your opponent.

Bottom Player:

  • Position: In front of your partner with their chest contacting your back, a single leg wrapped around your torso with the foot covering your hip, one arm wrapped over your shoulder, the other arm wrapped under your armpit, and their hands connected.
  • Objective: Use movement to create space and improve your position.
  • Constraints: None
  • Win Condition: Turn and face your partner by any means necessary.

Reset if either player wins.

6 Minute Round

Live round with a partner. Start standing if you are able to do so safely. Otherwise pick the starting position from one of the previous games and start there. Roll to submission, reset, and continue. Repeat as many times as possible before the round ends.
